Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Ceargio Bagenda immigrated to the US to escape civil conflict. As a result, he found much joy and liberation from creating and thus pursued a degree in the fine arts, bringing with him a mix of cultural themes and vernacular that inform his mixed-media work. Earning his Bachelor of Arts for Art, Media, and Design at DePaul University in Chicago, Bagenda’s diverse studio practice ranges from oil painting to 3D projection mapping, showcasing his tactile use of colors as well as his affinity towards geometry. His work examines the dichotomies between the defined, rigid, and geometric along with the forgiving, lively and evocative - encapsulating the perspectives of being an Asian-American artist settling in a rapidly progressive world.
